My question is this….how do we grow out of the tendency to make other things our treasure? Daily I can insert various treasures that are silly and at times cause tension in the family, work, etc. What are some practical things we can do to move out of this cycle? Will Hatfield on August 12, 2009 at 1:03 pm Adam, Great question! In a sense we never grow out of our tendency to do this (until Christ returns) because of the presence of sin in our lives. We just keep repenting and depending on God’s grace. In another sense, obviously we can grow in our awareness of the problem and strategies to keep God first. A great book on this is called The Enemy Within. The two key strategies are being in the Word, not just reading it but meditating on what it says about God as well as sin, as well as prayer, praying “without ceasing” keeps us aware of our sinful tendencies as well as the greatness of God upon whom we are depending. Will Will Hatfield on August 12, 2009 at 1:12 pm In the illustration I was meditating on my desire to get home and talking to myself about how wonderful it would be to get home early rather than meditating on God’s grace and God’s promises and talking to God in thankfulness about getting home early.
