Freedom

Freedom isn’t free and peace in a fallen world comes at a price. Maybe you reflected last Monday on the progress toward equality that Martin Luther King Jr. sacrificed for in his leadership during the Civil Rights Movement. Perhaps while our new Commander and Chief was sworn in, you considered the military he will lead that sacrifices for us for a living. As you interact with fellow believers, remember the sacrifice that Jesus made to eliminate every possible division amongst you all.

Pray that our understanding of our union with Christ increase and be the glue that unites us all.

Ephesians 2:14
For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility.

Pray For Your Pastors

We are thankful for our pastors!

We are thankful for our pastors!

Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you.Hebrews 13:17

Managers oversee employees and teachers oversee students but the church leader’s focus is the souls of men. True ministry is not motivated by prestige nor does it require riches but the responsibility is enormous. Souls rely on the counsel and teaching of a church leader to know God and respond to His commands in a worthy manner. How great a responsibility it is for church members to acknowledge the work of our pastors and promote their joy.

Pray that our pastors are encouraged by the fruit of their ministry, strengthened by the Word, and protected from the sins of the world.

Time Management

We sometimes struggle to know how we’re using our time and living in light of eternity. A great way to help this is to quantify how we use our time. To do that, a simple exercise to do is to right down for a week how you used your time in 15 or 30 minute increments and then to categorize that time based on important, urgent, necessary, or leisure time. Finding a good tool to help you is sometimes difficult with this. Below is a link to a tool in Excel I found that might help. You can include meeting times etc and then track how you use your other time.

I will not offer anything that costs me nothing

Questions to ask yourself to help determine what you truly value, what you’re willing to sacrifice for those things, and how you go about doing that.

What are you sacrificing for right now?                 What were your tradeoffs this week?

What do you resist giving up?  Why?

What are you planning every week to do with your free time?

What are you looking forward to?

What do you think is too complicated, hard, costly?  Why?

What are you assuming will care for/encourage/provide for the people in your life?  “They’ll be ok because…” How does this free you up to do your own thing rather than doing something for them?

What are the things you won’t trade away?

What are you willing to give up to get what you want as far as time, money, resources, friends?

How are you different in using your time and energy than the unbelievers around you?

How are you sacrificing time and money to get what’s truly important to you?

What little things do you value that in the big scheme of life are hindering possessing what’s truly valuable?

What would your children/friends say is truly valuable to you? Ask your friends what are the things they think you won’t give away or what is too costly for you.

How do you typically communicate the sacrifice you are making?

Who do you have to talk to in order to make what you want happen?

What could you do this week/month/year in order to praise God?

How could you use your resources to truly share with others?

How can you make others successful this week?

How are you laying up treasure in heaven?   How can you plan to lay up more?

1 Kings 18

When Elijah confronts Ahab, he shows God’s power and presence.  God answers prayer.  He is much better than any other god.  Just like the Israelites, we need to turn to Him and follow Him.
