  1. Wow! 75 years! It’s been over 40 years since I attended Campus Baptist in the late 1960s as a student at ISU. Brings back great memories of sitting in the front rows of the newer sanctuary on South Sheldon Ave listening to those alliterative three-point sermons from “Dr. Paul” (Tassell). How he stood on his toes for minutes at a time to get more impact is more than I’ll ever know. The congregation’s loud singing coupled with the theology packed into the words of the old hymns could sure stir my soul. Being part of the robed choir on Sunday mornings under the direction of “big-arm-swing” Chuck Cowan was also a delight. Unable to attend the reunion but send my greetings.

  2. Dear Campus Baptist,
Praise God for 75 years! I will not be attending all the super neat special events, so I thought I would leave a note. You supported my parents as missionaries to Argentina many years ago. (Richard and Harriette Westbrook served as church planters from 1979 until 1992. They now live, retired, in Grandview, Ia.) Your ladies missionary groups made a huge impact on our lives. We were the happy recipients of many half-gallon milk carton packages! Instant puddings and other treats–”new” American items–I don’t remember what all loaded them up. But I do remember how much we loved getting them! As an added bonus, since they were little packages, they often came straight to our door instead of the customs offices 2 hours away. When I left Argentina and attended college, I still received an occasional letter or gift. What a blessing to be cared for in such generous, simple, but meaningful, ways.
I don’t remember those ladies’ names. (Sunny Powers is the only one that comes to mind!) I am confident the Lord remembers and will reward Campus Baptist for caring for those who went out from you to share Christ. May God continue to bless your worship, instruction, fellowship, and service as long as Christ tarries.
In His love with much gratitude, Renee Andrews

  3. Our family (Rod and Sunny Powers) moved to Ames in 1961. Our bread man in Phoenix told us to find Campus Baptist Church. I had such a wonderful experience at CBC. I was baptized by Pastor Dowden, then sat under the ministries of Dr. Paul and Dr. Brown until I went to college. Great men of God! When Harold Davis and I were married at CB and then went to Colombia as missionaries, the people of CBC were right behind us. And when I came back as a widow, they welcomed my three girls and me with open arms. Seven years later, I married a man I had met at CB in high school–the college guy Delmar Mains. We were the last couple to be married at the 130 S. Sheldon address. So many good memories! How God has used the people of Campus Baptist Church in my life! I praise Him for it, and for the 75 years we celebrate this year.
